This week, thought I would leave Trumon Blancett and bring one of his stories back another time:) Have plenty to share.

Last week I quietly introduced another family name:  SEIDLE

Our lineage with this family goes like this:

 1.Elbert Lyle Koontz
  2.Samuel Elbert Koontz
 3.John Andrew Koontz
4.Hanna or Hannah Seidel (married to Philip  *Kuntz/Koontz)                                                         5.Heinrich Seidel Jr. b:1765 Maiden Creek PA
6.Johann Seidel Sr.b: 1732 in Preuschdorf, Alsace,Lorraine, Germany
7. Hans/Johann Seidel b:Preuschdorf, Alsace, Germany   (Some of the family records refer to Alsace as in France??)

*FYI---the original Koontz spelling as far as when they came to this country was Kuntz, then the name is found spelled in different ways after that. It appears that this Philip changed it to Koontz--more about that another time.)

Because of this family and at least one other (Goss), we qualify as sons and daughter of the American Revolution.

Johann Heinrich Seidel 1732 - 1801: was the first Seidel to come to America. Originally a native of Strasbourg, Germany, he crossed the ocean on the ship "Brothers", and landed at Philadelphia, September 10, 1751. As was the custom of the times, he was sold for his passage because he was too poor to pay his own way. The following year he obtained his freedom and immediately proceeded to Reading, Berks County,(Pennsylvania) where in time, he became a large land owner, possessing property in Bern and a tract of four hundred acres in Maiden Creek Township. Farming was his chief occupation and it brought him large returns, but during a period beginning with 1786, Mr. Seidel returned to Germany and entered upon mercantile ventures there. He was, however, mainly identified with Maiden Creek Township where he operated his farm for many years. In his earlier life, he saw considerable military service. He participated in the Indian Wars under Captian Hiester, and later in the Revolutionary War, while his wife and children carried on the farming.

In 1760, Johann Heinrich Seidel married Anna Catherine Rodmacher, who was born January 19, 1738. She died February 9, 1808 at seventy years and twenty days of age. Her husband died some years earlier, August 21, 1801, at age sixty nine years, four months and twenty-one days. His last resting place is the grave yard of Zion's Church in Perry Township, Berks County. The spot marked by heavy marble slab. Johann and Anna Seidel had six sons and three daughters.  Of the three daughters only two are recorded by name, Mary and Margaret....it is supposed the third daughter died in infancy.

I will include the names of the children here: Michael, Heinrich (our grandfather), Daniel, Anna Maria, John Jacob, Philip Sr.,Johann Jr.,Margaretha. I wonder if Anna went by the name of Mary?

Johann Heinrich Seidel is on the D.A.R. Patriot List 1966 Book 929.4 at the New Castle Library, Page 603.
